We've previously talked about the success we've had with the Kennedy's Chocolates website - specifically the Drag and Drop chocolate picker. In peak seasons like Christmas, the Drag and Drop picker accounts for around 70% of online orders. And with the snow-filled Christmas of 2010, the website proved essential to the business since many people were unable to physically get to the shop in Orton.
While the existing site had been working well, Kennedy’s approached the hydrant team recently to make a few updates to ensure the site was in line with the evolution of their business. Based on customer feedback, they wanted to give customers the option of delivering to multiple addresses, and wanted to eliminate the need for customers to register in order to place an order. They also wanted to make a few updates to the site design.
By using Magento Commerce a robust e-commerce platform, we were able to achieve goal number one, which was to enable multiple delivery addresses and streamline the checkout process. On top of this, we made the the Drag and Drop chocolate picker, initially built in Flash, an integral part of the system by using HTML / JQuery. We felt that this was a more robust long-term option, with fewer drawbacks than Flash and easier administration for the client.
These and other changes to the site mean that:
- The updated design is more in tune with the business
- The checkout process is better, and easier for customers
- Customers don't have to register to place an order
- Customers who do register get access to a slick new dashboard so they can view and manage their account, with the ability to re-order previous purchases and manage their address book
