Red Squirrels Northern England (RSNE) is a new red squirrel conservation partnership project that works to protect red squirrel populations in northern England. We worked alongside RSNE to replace their ageing website and redirect it to the current URL. The previous site was not as user-friendly as RSNE would have liked, and they also wanted to improve the navigation, group relevant content together and enable users to submit information on red squirrel sightings in the north of England.
Brief:
To redesign the RSNE website, allowing site visitors to easily submit sightings of red and grey squirrels, which would be published on the site using a Google map. Restructure site navigation to provide a better user experience and group relevant content together.
Solution:
- Updated the design of site to increase awareness of RSNE conservation efforts and encourage more people to participate
- Added functionality to enable visitors to submit sightings of red and grey squirrels
- Incorporated a highly visible Google map on the main page to show all of the squirrel sightings in the area
- Fully optimised the site for search engines and social media interaction
Results:
- Increased audience participation and site usage
- More time spent per visitor on the site
- Easier content management
- More flexibility; Drupal CMS allows for future development
