Hydrant worked with the Cumberland Pencil Company to help design and build their first email newsletter template. The template allows them to easily create newsletters that highlight new products or promote upcoming shows. The design makes use of compelling images that resonate with their audience and make their readers want to know more.

To work closely with Cumberland’s own design team to ensure the newsletter template fit into their existing look and feel and worked well for their particular audience. We provided newsletter samples along with design recommendations, and they provided us with design ideas which we together refined further into a final design.
our solution:
We created the html template based on the final design. We imported it to our newsletter system and tested it in the major email clients including Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and Gmail. Once we were happy with the template, we set up a test campaign so the client could see how to add, update and delete content.
Our solution provided the client with the following key benefits:

- Straightforward management of their mailing lists

Kennedys Fine Chocolates
Hydrant worked with luxury food brand Kennedy’s Fine Chocolates – to create a website that included an intuitive drag & drop chocolate picker to help overcome the barrier for online shoppers who wanted to create their own unique selection of chocolates. Though Kennedy’s has a loyal instore & mail-order customer base, their offline success had never translated well into online sales. Since the new site’s launch in November ’08, there has been a 50% decrease in shopping cart abandonment, a higher than forecast use of the drag & drop picker, better search engine visibility & importantly, overall online sales have increased by 35%.

Design & build an innovative new website to drive online sales - offering customers an easy to use & personal purchasing experience.
our solution:
- Analysis of orders showed that online shoppers frequently purchased in a multitude of ways; they wanted to buy pre-filled chocolate boxes, individual items such as chocolate bars & create their own individual boxes
- To help retain existing loyal customers as well as attracting new purchasers, we quickly identified the need to develop a specific tool to help make for an easier, more enjoyable (and personal) shopping experience
- Our solution was to develop a flash based innovative ‘drag and drop’ chocolate picker (or selection tool), fully integrated into a shopping cart
- The ‘drag & drop’ chocolate picker offers a simple 3 step process – first the shopper selects their box style/size, then they select chocolates by dragging them onto a empty square (& visually see the squares filling up as more chocolates are added). The final stage is an option for the shopper to add a personal message to be included with the box, before their selection is finally added to their shopping basket
- This innovative tool allows shoppers the flexibility to create their own personalised chocolate selections
- The chocolate picker is integrated into Virtuemart, a shopping cart the client already had prior experience of. Orders could also be managed by the client in the same way as before due to the way the chocolate picker integrated into the shopping cart – therefore causing minimal disruption to their mail order business
- When the site was launched in November 2008, Hydrant produced email newsletters to inform existing users of the new site
results:
- From its launch in November 2008, new site deemed to be an instant success
- By the end of the 2008 Christmas period online orders had increased by 30% compared to the same period 2007
- Our next challenge was to continue this growth into 2009, by continuing to do regular newsletters and work on search engine positioning orders have grown month on month & to date online orders have increased by 35%
- Our relationship remains ongoing
